Last few touches to the final poster
Last part of the poster design was inserting the mouse. This was no challenge of problem. I simply glued the image of the mouse on the poster and the poster was complete. I had been requested to clean up the image and let the font appear bolder. I did have to sharpen the chalk to get the lining of the letters accurate. Once these adjustments were complete my poster had been complete officially. I really enjoyed creating this poster and was really surprised at the final out come I learn a lot of new techniques and how to solve big problems. In conclusion, this is a poster for Flowers for Algernon.

Practicing drawing silhouette freely
Before starting of the good and final design, I had to another problem. The problem was how I was going to insert my outline of the image to the green chalkboard like construction paper without struggling to see the out lines. I had then been told to draw silhouette of green construction papers and draw lots of silhouettes I can. I had about 10 to 15 sheets of green construction, front and front filled with silhouettes. Bu the time I was finished, practicing draw silhouettes freely, I was able to draw the final copy. the image shown are a few example i did in this process.
Font research
printed image of font |
After successfully inserting the silhouette onto the green construction paper I had to figure out the font I wanted for this poster. I had an idea of the kind of font I wanted but I still browse though the different fonts. I wanted a chalkboard appearance. Eventually I did found the font I wanted. When I had printed out the font I had found out it was smaller than expected. There I had enlarged the image, using the technique I had learned from grade 10 art class. It was then the size I desired. I had shade the back with yellow chalk and carefully trace the large font on the final poster design.

Mouse adjustments
outline of moues |
As you know, one of the adjustments had change the mouse. Instead of a cartoon mouse I had been requested to make it into a real mouse. First step I took in changing mouse was to research how a regular lab mouse looks like. This procedure did not take long due that the image I requested for a mouse had been in front of me on the computer screen. Once I had printed the image I drew the mouse. I had shown my picture of the mouse to some people giving me the response I wanted to here, the mouse look real. In other cases some people had got frighten of the two dimensional image
The outline of the finished design
rough copy of the final outline that had a few adjustment |
For the final copy of the design, it had to be 13” by 17.5” and that was without the border. After presenting the final rough outline of the poster, had to make a few changes. Some of those changes were to make the silhouette appear less anime. And change the mouse into a real looking mouse instead of a cartoon mouse. I had taken these requests into consideration and proceed on the new adjustments. It did take numerous times before I could really have the final rough outline.
Suggestion and ideas to fix problem
one of the experiment with pastels |
how white chalk is able to be drawn on the green constuction paper |
Some of the suggestion I had receiving was to really draw the silhouette on a real chalkboard and take a photograph of the silhouette but, I was determine to get this chalkboard effect on paper. I tried two media, pastel and pencil crayon. The pastel would have worked unfortunately; I couldn’t draw over the shaded background. Pencil crayon did not even give the chalkboard effect. Finally the best alternative to fix the problem was to use green construction paper. I had liked this alternative because I was able to draw over the paper in any shade of color whether it was dark or light.

experiment of pastels and pencil crayons. |
In pursuing the idea of the mouse in the silhouette, I thought it would be best to create a chalkboard effect in the background and the silhouette of the person written as if it were chalk. Then insert a mouse in the middle. This was a really tricky and difficult situation due that I needed a chalkboard effect instead of just pastels or pencil crayon shading. In my opinion, this was the most difficult stage of the poster assignment. Trying to get the chalkboard effect.

Frankenstien play poster |
rough outline of final piece |
Before staring this assignment, the class and I had been introduced to some example of other poster for plays. I did take notice that the poster was simple and had limited of colors. The one I find to be an inspiration to me was the poster of Frankenstein. This poster had only two colors and did not have as much details. So I had wanted to create a silhouette of a person’s head side view and a mouse in the middle of the silhouette.

Brainstorming ideas
After researching the play, I was able to brainstorm some ideas and insert them on paper. At first it was really easy due to my ideas being one scene of the play that I watched. Unfortunately it was not the greatest ideas. I started to struggle when I couldn’t use scene from the movie. I had to been suggested to make the poster more symbolic and sort of make the viewer think about the play instead of giving away the story. It took a while to find out what should I create for the poster Flowers for Algernon till I came up with a couple more ideas. Two of the ideas really stand out to me from my the brainstorming paper.

Researching the play
Before I could ideas on paper, I had to see what this play was about. I needed as much information, including the plot of the play, characters and most of the entire theme. I did jot some few notes about the play and the information I had gathered. The research was really rough and unorganized. At the end of my research of the play, I had known more about the play than my own experience. I had also watch the movie to get a better understanding of the play.
Introduction of the poster design project
For this project in the design class, the class and I had to design a poster for the assigned play we were given. My play was Flowers for Algernon. At first I did not know what to do or where to get started on this assignment but, after researching the play the ideas really came clear. During this poster assignment i did take notes on changes, comments, and suggestions in my sketchbook for this blog.

Design for the snowman
At this stage of creating the final copy for the first day of winter Google, I had to create the snowman. I wanted the snowman to be precise and accurate oppose to just hand drawing it that maybe not even. So I measured the capital “G” height and then measured the space between the “G” and the “o”. Then I divided the spaces into three rectangles making the top rectangle a little smaller. Roughly drew the circles, I trace them to make the image cleaner. I really like the design for the snowman even though I put a bit too much work. I then knew the snowman was ready to be traced on the final copy of the Google design

Almost Finish
Pastel version of final Google |
At this stage, I am at the verge of finishing my Google design. Unfortunately, the final product was in pastel, which was really challenging to get though corner and thin spaces. There I had to change my choice of media. Not it did not look good, but needed to improve and presented better. I still post the pastel version of my final Google because it still looked really good. I was a little grieved to here the dramatic change but, it never stop me to make the new pencil crayon version of the final Google. I personally had concerns about the pastel version of the final Google being presented unprofessionally and smudge. Over all, I think the pencil crayon version will be outstanding.

Template and measurement for final copy
I new that for the final piece of Google we had to be presented professionally, so decide to created a rough template. Though it was rough, I still measured accurately the negative space to center Google. This process took only 2 to 4 minutes of my time but was worth it. I really feel confident that this template will come in good use even if I only used it once.

A few adjustments for DNA
the letter "G" forming into a double helix |
Photograph 51 was the discovery of the double helix in Deoxyribonucleic acid or DNA. Unfortunately, the capital “G” of my Google for Photograph 51 was not a double helix but a curve latter. I was really unsure of this and self-conscious that photograph 51 is the all about double helix not really about DNA. I then decide to adjust the letter G forming it into a double helix. I was really satisfied of the change I made, but then I had another issue with the e.
Color roughs
After select the top three Google, which were; photograph 51 for historical event, Warner brothers for famous artist, and for annual event, the first day of winter. I knew what colors I wanted for the first day of winter and photograph 51 but for the Warner brothers, was litter challenging. This step was long due that one of the media I selected. I chose to use oil pastel for the annual event Google because of the cold colors and blending in the cool colors with white giving an icy look and feel.
Selecting my top three Google
my top three Google are: the first day of winter, photograph 51, and the Warner brothers |
After brainstorming 4 pages of ideas, it was time to select three of my three best Google design, one from historical event, one from a famous artist and one from annual event. It was hard to select the three Google because, there was some that I want to do but may require more time, and others that I find interesting. This was the hardest and pressuring step due to the time, and how much design was going to be involved. I had to take both of these things in thought. Then I finally found my three.

Beginning of my Google
Brainstorming ideas was difficult in terms of finding famous artists and historical events. Brainstorming for annual events was easy on the other hand. I really enjoyed drawing the rough ideas because, the thumb nails gives a professional look. The thumb nails were not organized but, I still like them. What I really dislike about this step was researching for the historical events. I got use to researching for a while. I had some really good ideas. I still put what I brainstormed in my sketch book even though it was not going to be selected as my final.

The Google design
final Google Design |
For this design, the class and I had to create a design for Google. We were given three topics which were annual event, historical event, and a famous artist. We were to use these topics and interpret our own Google. I had seen a lot of Google on the computer thinking this assignment was going to easy. Unfortunately in was partially challenging.

final abstract chair design
This is my final abstract chair design. I chose this composition instead of the others I did because my sister fined it interesting. In my opinion, I like all the composition I created for this assignment. The colors are really striking and the textures are rough and smooth. Also the textures really busy in the shapes. I really enjoy this assignment. Although I had a few that may stand out better, this one was a little different.

abstact chair design
When inserting the textures in the shape on photoshop, it was hard at first but after getting use to the program i improve. It seem very easy and I really enjoyed using this program. I really thought selecting the texture was hard. Instead of thinking of which textures goes good together, I experimented with the textures. This is not the final design but one of the experiment designs I created.

abstract chair design
the next step was to crop out a good composition and then enlarge the composition. I thought this step was easier than the first step because I had allot of composition I found. I chose this composition because of the variety of shapes and sizes. We had to clean up the composition making the image cleaner with straight line and accurate curves and angle. This process was easy due to the lines being straight.
abstract chair design
the first step was to draw the negative spaces of a statue of chairs. this was difficult because, we can't draw the chairs only the negative spaces. Also using the crop finders was challenging and tiring because we have to keep the position of the croped image. Although it was tiring i like the finished product.
